RED OAK VICTORY - LOWER NUMBER 5 HOLD

Click and drag to see more.

The #5 hold is located at the extreme aft end of the ship. This view is of the lower level of this two-level hold area. In all, there are 5 "holds" on the ship, with as few as two, or as many as four levels. As of this time lower #5 contains "dead" storage of such items as engine parts, low pressure turbine, and turbine rotors. The long cylindrical item is the barrel of a 5 inch naval cannon manufactured in 1918 but overhauled in 1942 and used in WWII. A 5 inch 38 calibre naval cannon manufactured in WWII was the largest gun that armed the RED OAK VICTORY.
