RED OAK VICTORY - ENGINE ROOM

Steam generated by the boilers first goes into the smaller high pressure turbine on right, then to the larger low pressure turbine on left. They are combined by the reduction gear just below the photographer in this photo which turns the shaft.

Shaft alley is a narrow passage that contains the shaft between the turbines in the engine room and the stuffing box that leads to the propellor outside the ship.

The condensor turns the exhausted steam from the turbines into feed water that is then reused by the boilers.
